EasyLaw's Registration Assistance Service for Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SESSS)

In Malaysia, self-employed individuals are often left out of the social security safety net that employees enjoy. However, the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SESSS)/Self-Employed Social Security Scheme (Skim Keselamatan Sosial Pekerjaan Sendiri or SKSPS), managed by SOCSO (PERKESO), provides essential protection for sole proprietors and other self-employed workers, ensuring that you are covered in case of accidents, illness, or disabilities related to your work. Starting in 2025, registration will become mandatory for a wider range of self-employed professionals. Previously, this scheme only covered those working in e-hailing, but now it has expanded to include another 20 sectors. These sectors include: goods or food transportation, agriculture, livestock farming, forestry, fisheries, food, manufacturing, construction, street vendors, accommodation, information technology, data processing, agents, professional services, support services, arts, household services, and health care and rehabilitation services.

What is Skim Keselamatan Sosial Pekerjaan Sendiri (SKSPS)
